THE REVIEW
At COLD FURY 2: Last Call, Chaotic Wrestling's annual event truly established itself as a New England institution moving to a larger venue in North Andover, MA. The venue was needed not only to hold the growing COLD FURY crowds, but Chaotic Wrestling's first ladder match for the CW Heavyweight Championship. By the end of the night, the crowd would see a number of titles change hands and one champion remain victorious.
This was the first year that the "COLD FURY Tag Team Curse" came into effect as one half of the CW Tag Team Champions, Adam Booker, was injured shortly before the event and was unable to compete. His partner, Frankie Armadillo, was forced to choose a partner for the evening and chose none other than "Intellectual" Arch Kincaid. The opponents that night were Attrition - Studd and Angers - the largest tag team in Chaotic Wrestling at that time. Armadillo and Kincaid fought against the overpowering size and strength of the challengers and seemed to be on the verge of a victory, when Matthew Evagrius made his way to the ring and leveled Kincaid with a steel chair. Attrition got the pin and were declared the new Chaotic Wrestling Tag Team Champions. Ironically, the "Tag Team Curse" would repeat itself at COLD FURY 3 and COLD FURY 5, as both Brian Black and Bryan Logan would be unable to compete in their scheduled matches due to injury.
Another title that changed hands at COLD FURY 2 was the Chaotic Wrestling New England Title. Reigning champion, "Dancing" Dukes Dalton, was faced with a challenge not only from his opponent, "Lifesaver" Billy Kryptonite, but his former manager Brittany Summer as well. After months of battles and attacks, Dalton agreed to face the Baywatch-inspired duo in a handicap match. Prior to the match, Rich Palladino explained that if either Billy or Brittany pinned Dukes, the person getting the pinfall or submission would become the CW New England Champion. Likewise, Dukes could defeat either Billy or Brittany he would get the victory and retain his title.
For the entire match, Brittany cowered on the outside of the ring, only entering when Dukes was unable to fight back. Eventually, the champion caught her and delivered a devestating Death Valley Driver to the diminuitive manager. Dalton's victory was short-lived, however, as Billy was able to deliver his Tidal Wave finisher and cover Dalton for the three-count. Kryptonite would go on to win the CW Heavyweight Championship later that year, while Summer was gone from Chaotic Wrestling forever.
In the main event, two men who were best friends a year before, were now bitter enemies in the ring. "Hurricane" John Walters shocked all of Chaotic Wrestling when he turned on this 12-Pack partner, "Good Time" Vince Vicallo, costing them their CW Tag Team Titles. After Walters won the Chaotic Wrestling Heavyweight Title, he was shocked to see his former friend and partner step up as his first challenger. Over the course of a few months, Walters narrowly escaped with victories over both Vicallo and "The Idol" Aaron Stevens. It wasn't until Walters used a steel ladder against Vicallo in Methuen, MA that the main event of COLD FURY 2: Last Call was decided.
Walters, Vicallo and the fans all watched as the CW Heavyweight belt was raised high over the ring in North Andover. It quickly became obvious that any friendship between these two men was long gone as they brutally attacked each other with the ladder. After a long battle, both men slowly climbed the ladder and began to fight for posession of a steel chair that Walters had brought into the match. Just as it seemed that Vicallo would be the one to take the chair and use it on Walters, "Hurricane" produced a bag of white powder and threw it into the eyes of the challenger. As Vicallo struggled to regain his vision, Walters hit him across the head with the steel chair, sending him crashing back to the mat. Walters was then able to reach up, take the belt and continue his reign as CW Heavyweight Champion. |
