THE REVIEW
COLD FURY 9: The Never-ending Chase was a night that featured the return of some past Chaotic Wrestling stars, the emergence of one young Starr, and the shocking conclusion of a year-long party. On February 19, 2010, the Polish American Veterans Club rocked from the start of the night - which saw the return of the mysterious El Milagro in a losing effort against Demon Ortiz - to the end, which saw "Kingpin" Brian Milonas challenge Chase Del Monte for the CW Heavyweight Title he had won a year earlier at COLD FURY 8: Infinite Possibilities. In between, fans got to see the in-ring debut of manager Sean Gorman in a six man tag team match, where he ended up pinning Elia Markopoulos, thanks to a spear from the returning Sledge. Mike Nice was back as well, joining forces with Max Bauer to challenge The Logan Brothers for the CW tag Team Titles, in an unsuccessful effort. The most celebrated Chaotic homecoming of the evening, however, was that of Handsome Johnny.
Handsome had spent a full year away from the business after years of wear and tear on his back finally caught up with him. With a diagnosed fractured spine and the threat of possible paralysis looming, Johnny had come to accept that he would never step between the ropes again, and his legacy was to be enshrined in the Chaotic Wrestling Hall of Fame at COLD FURY 9 alongside "Extreme Strongman" Gino Martino. A classless, unexpected browbeating from "The Manliest Man" Biff Busick changed everything. After months of verbal and physical attacks, Handsome could take no more. He signed a waiver absolving Chaotic Wrestling of any responsibility and challenged Biff to a match at COLD FURY 9: The Never-ending Chase. Unfortunately, the match was unsatisfying for The Handsome One, as a frustrated Busick - who had been outwrestled by the veteran star - ended up using a steel chair for the disqualification.
A Chaotic Countdown Battle Royal was ordered for COLD FURY 9, with the winner to face "Blowout Boy" Danny E. for his CW New England Championship. A relative unknown in Julian Starr rose to the occasion, lasting the entire match to earn the title match AND the admiration of the crowd in Lowell. Their support was not quite enough, as Danny squeaked by the former member of Brian Milonas' personal security to retain his championship.
Speaking of Milonas, his title bout at COLD FURY 9 was the culmination of a year-long campaign for a championship match. The big man from Pittsburgh took to shaking hands and kissing babies in an effort to rally the fans behind his cause. After months and months of plastering on a smile, his true colors eventually emerged and he went into February 19th as the angry monster fans - and Chase Del Monte - know best. The smile did return late in the match, when a strange cloaked figure appeared in the ring in front of Chase. Del Monte pulled off the hood to reveal Cherry Payne, Milonas' original manager, who struck Chase with a billyclub - leading to Milonas hitting his chokebomb to win the bout and the CW Heavyweight Title. The era of The Kingpin had begun, and The Never-ending Chase had come to an end at COLD FURY 9. |
